Haidong Gumdo is a Korean style of Swordsmanship. It was developed for fighting multiple opponents on a large scale battle setting and for one-on-one combat with the sword. Although the days of using swords to fight battles is over, learning the way of the sword, is a way for us to connect with those ancient warriors that lived by a code of honor and develop our own inner warrior spirit. Learning Haidong Gumdo is a great way to sharpen your body, mind and spirit.

Haidong Gumdo training consists of four main areas:

Kibon Dongjak

Here students work on developing their basic stances and cuts using a Mokgum (Wooded Sword). These basic techniques will form the foundation of the students sword skills.

Here students work on learning pre-arranged attack and defense sequences with a partner

Here students learn the thousands of ways to move and cut with the sword in a fluid motion. The forms a student learns depends on their rank.

Once a student has earned their Black Belt and has demonstrated the responsibility and maturity to handle a real sword they learn how to cut various targets such as bamboo, straw mat, paper and fruit cutting.
